After the death of Bir Bikram his minor son Kirit Bikram Kishore (age 14) took charge of the kingdom and Chakla Roshnabad Zamindari under Maharani Kanchanprabha Devi. Maharaja Kirit Bikram Kishore Deb Barman was the nominal king for two years till the state's merger into India in 1949.
Immediately after the death of Bir Bikram, there was not a single day free from communal disturbances. In the plains of Chakla Roshnabad, the Muslims had committed appealing massacres against the Hindus, the Hindus were forced to be refugees and to take shelter in Tripura. While Sylhet was carved from India, the Muslim League volunteers started brutal rigging to the Hindus. Then thousands of Hindu Bengalees took refuge in the northern part of Tripura. Having taken Sylhet, they threatened to capture Tripura. But different tribal organisations like Bir Bikram Tripur Sangha and Seng Krak took a stand to check the influx of the Bengalee Hindu refugees. An unholy alliance between Maharajkumar Durjaykishore Debbarman and Anjuman Islamia irritated the situation. An important meeting was organised by the Congress leaders to protest against the conspiracy. Kumar Ramendra Kishore (Nani Karta) presided over the meeting. Maharani went to Delhi and met Home Minister Sardar Patel to report about the crisis. Sardar Patel expressed his anxiety about Tripura.
